Spice Club
Pick Up: Monday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Meet & Eat: Thursday, October 26, at 6 p.m.

At the beginning of each month, pick up a take-home kit at the Groton Public Library that includes the featured spice, information on its history and uses, and a recipe or two. Experiment in the kitchen and bring a creation that incorporates the spice to our Meet & Eat. This program is open to cooking enthusiasts of all ages. Supplies are limited on a first-come, first-served basis.

Morning Matinee
Tuesday, October 3, at 9:30 a.m.

Join us at the Groton Public Library for a free movie, freshly-popped popcorn, and ice-cold lemonade. These early-bird showings may feature cinema classics, new releases, or documentaries. Call the Library at (860) 441-6750 for this month’s film title. Please note that this event may be cancelled due to library construction.

Fiber Arts Group
Tuesday, October 3, at 6 p.m.

Do you knit, crochet, embroider, spin, sew, weave, braid rugs, or do any kind of fiber craft? Bring a project to work on and join us for a relaxing and creative evening at the Groton Public Library. All levels are welcome!

Groton Public Library Book Group
Tuesday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m.

The Groton Public Library will host a book discussion of “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison. From the acclaimed Nobel Prize winner—a powerful examination of our obsession with beauty and conformity that asks questions about race, class, and gender with characteristic subtly and grace. Copies of the book are available at the library; call or reserve online.

Haunted History of New England (VIRTUAL)
Thursday, October 12, at 7 p.m.

This presentation melds historical fact together with legend and myth to produce an interesting, fascinating, and sometimes shocking new look at haunted events in our region. Presented by Christopher Daley.

Introduction to Journal Writing
Tuesday, October 17, at 6:30 p.m.

In this workshop, participants will explore the benefits of journal writing, practice with a variety of prompts and techniques, discover their own writing style, and learn to develop a meaningful journal writing practice of their own. Presented by Jane Rossi, certified Journal to the Self® instructor. Registration required.

Monday, October 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
October's recipe: Classic pot roast with gravy

Join us for a new monthly cooking series led by food aficionado, Dana Parfitt. Each demonstration will take you through recipes step-by-step and include a tasting. ChatGPT: Let’s Talk About It
Tuesday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m.

ChatGPT, or Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer, is a new chatbot by Open AI. It generates impressively detailed and human-like text. Many are concerned about the implications of such a powerful AI chatbot being available to the general public. Join us for a discussion with Old Lyme High School Library Media Specialist Lucy Trost for a discussion about this new technology. Participants are encouraged to bring their devices and try ChatGPT out for themselves.

Not Your Mother’s Book Group

Meet up with fellow Millenniaks.” October 1-7 is Bannls and Gen Z-ers (ages 21-40) at the Groton Public Library to socialize, play games, and talk about books. This month’s theme is “Banned or Challenged Booed Books Week, so come to book group having read a title from the American Library Association’s challenged lists.
