Join Jeffrey Fletcher of The Ruby & Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum on a journey through African American history, from the early years of slavery to today. The presentation will include a video tour of the museum and real artifacts from the museum’s collection.
The Ruby & Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum boasts a collection of artifacts which reflect decades of turbulent times for African Americans in the United States from the start of slavery through the Civil Rights movement. It offers visitors an up close and personal experience of things that they may have only read about in history books or seen in movies.

Join librarian Cindy Haiken on Zoom to watch and discuss a popular TED talk. Once registered, you will receive an invitation to the Zoom meeting via email on the day of the event. In September, we will watch and discuss Celeste Headlee’s “10 Ways to Have a Better Conversation.”
When your job hinges on how well you talk to people, you learn a lot about how to have conversations—and that most of us don’t converse very well. Celeste Headlee has worked as a radio host for decades, and she knows the ingredients of a great conversation: Honesty, brevity, clarity and a healthy amount of listening. In this insightful talk, she shares 10 useful rules for having better conversations. “Go out, talk to people, listen to people,” she says. “And, most importantly, be prepared to be amazed.”

Heathy eating is not about strict limitations or depriving yourself of foods that you enjoy. Healthy eating is about eating foods to make you feel great so that you have more energy, improve your health, and boost your mood. This discussion is aimed at the components of healthy eating. Kathleen Kuba is a Registered Dietitian and the Clinical Nutrition Manager at Masonicare Health Center. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Connecticut in Storrs and completed her internship through the University of Connecticut as well.
